Project: Sahara

Wedding: Virgi and Mohamed

Virgie and Mohamed came from the Netherlands to get married in Marrakech. They had their wedding at the beautiful Riad Al Jazera. In the morning before the ceremony Virgi, Mohamed and I made a little trip around Marrakech to take some photos. Above are a small selection of the images we took that day.

It was a pleasure getting to know Virgie and Mohamed, and I wish them the best of luck..

Fashion: Mes-Robes.com

The above image is taken from the home page of the new premier online retailer Mes-Robes.com.
Mes-Robes.com was started by the very lovely Aneta Karnafel, Aneta and I had worked together before on another project and became good friends. During the summer I ran into Aneta while I was walking around Marrakech and after a very warm greeting we started to talk about a new project Aneta was working on, this project which became Mes-Robes.com I thought was a great idea and hoped I could help anyway I could. After a few conversations about what she was looking for and idea's I had about what I could bring to the project we set out to create what you see above. One weekend about a month ago we shot two full days of images both in the studio and on location. From that two day shoot we produced the beginnings of Mes-Robes.com.

Please take a look at Mes-Robes.com and the blog for more photos and a behind the scenes video shot by my good friend Abderrazak Barnoussi from Vision Nomade

I want to Thank Aneta, Fatima Ezzahra, models Soukaina and Btissam, Rachid Fahim from RVZ Maroc. and Abderrazak for all of their help and support..

Please take a few minutes and take a look at Mes-Robes.com

Harvest Expedition - The High Atlas Foundation

From September 7th-14th 2012, the High Atlas Foundation’s project staff, nut specialists and entrepreneurs Mike Mellace and Tony Bagato, photographer Terry Munson, and a technician from Morocco’s Ministry of Agriculture embarked on an Expedition during when almonds and walnuts are harvested in the High Atlas Mountains.  The sites are the Rural Communes of Asni, Ouirgane, and Toubkal in the Al Haouz and Taroudant provinces.  The weeklong trip also included visits to Rabat and Casablanca to meet prospective and current government and nongovernment partners to support this project.
The visit with the rural communities enabled assessing the needed modifications in agricultural practices and processing procedures that are needed in order for family farmers to gain organic certification for their almonds and walnuts.  Furthermore, the Expedition gave the opportunity to develop the design and content for community training programs to build the needed skills related to organic farming and providing consumer ready products.
In addition to meeting the Governor of the Al Haouz province along with relevant regional ministerial counterparts, the meetings in Rabat and Casablanca were with the Embassy of Japan; the United States Agency for International Development; the Faculty of Law, Economics, and Social Science at Hassan II University; and the Port of Casablanca.  HAF is so very grateful to be a finalist for a grant from the Alliance for Global Good, which would support the process to secure organic certification of High Atlas almonds and walnuts for the benefit of rural families.
Certified organic nuts have double the economic value for Moroccan farming families, and through HAF the farmers will be connected directly to international purchasers of their product.  This project will guarantee for farming families the purchase of their nuts at this higher value and also create a new revenue stream for HAF by providing this service to the communities of the Toubkal commune, and beyond (there are ten such communes in the High Atlas Mountains that will next be targeted by this project).  In addition to tree nurseries, the new revenue stream will support HAF’s community projects in irrigation, clean drinking water, women and youth development, and experiential training programs.
This project will enable HAF to complete the agricultural development cycle by facilitating the export of their product.  HAF and its community partners planted 458,492 trees, toward their goal to plant 1 Million Trees.  Please also visit HAF’s PowerPoint of the tree planting campaign, including their 2013 goals.

Project: Maria Jose Arjona

Maria Jose Arjona is a performance artist from Bogota, Colombia who recently was commissioned to put on a performance here in Marrakech for the Voice Gallery.

I was asked to photographer Maria's performance so the photos could be used as part of the touring gallery exhibit.

Above are a small selection of those images which were printed in large format By Still Images Studio and will be on display at The Voice Gallery until April 28th.

Check out Maria's website here.

It was great working with Maria, not only is she extremely talented, she is also one of the sweetest people I have had the chance to work with.  Good Luck Maria...

Photo Workshop: Les Journees de Safi, 2012

Last weekend Still Images traveled to Safi to participate in Les Journees de Safi at the Lycee Mohanned V. Alan and I set up 3  studios each with different lightning, camera positions and backgrounds. We had about 70 high school kids participating, and as you can see from the images above I think they did a great job.

Our main goal was to teach a few of the basics involved in studio photography, but really it was a exercise in creativity and letting them explore the possibilities of what is possible from behind and in front of the lens.
